Paste a job posting and see, line by line, how it measures against Ontario’s job posting rules. It is free, it needs no account, and what you paste is not saved.
How it works
- Paste the full text of the posting (at least 40 characters).
- Optionally enter your number of employees in Ontario and say whether any AI tool screens, ranks or selects applicants.
- Each check comes back marked OK, Fix, Check (a person should look) or N/A, with the section it comes from.
The checks are a fixed set of rules written from the law texts. No AI model decides whether a rule applies, and the same text always gets the same result.
What it checks
The examples below are real results for short sample postings.
| Check | Rule | Example input | Example result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who is covered | The posting rules do not apply under 25 employees on the posting day, to postings restricted to existing employees, or to work performed outside Ontario (O. Reg. 476/24 ss. 1, 2(1)). | 18 employees entered | N/A: “Rules do not apply under 25 employees.” The age and accommodation checks still run. |
| Pay | State the expected pay or a range (ESA s. 8.2(1)); a range can be no wider than $50,000 a year (O. Reg. 476/24 s. 4); not required above $200,000 (s. 3). | “Salary: $55,000 to $115,000 per year.” | Fix: “Pay range is wider than $50,000 … a spread of $60,000. Narrow it to $50,000 or less.” |
| Pay, hourly | Same rule. With no hours stated, the check assumes 40 hours a week and asks you to look rather than failing the posting. | “Pay: $20 to $50 an hour.” | Check: “works out to $41,600–$104,000 a year (assuming 40 hours a week; no hours were stated).” |
| Other pay | Compensation means wages (O. Reg. 476/24 s. 2(2)), so other pay named in the posting gets a closer look. | “$45,000 a year plus commission.” | Check: “Other pay mentioned: commission.” |
| AI disclosure | If AI is used to screen, assess or select applicants, the posting says so (ESA s. 8.4). | No AI statement, and you answered “yes” to the AI question | Fix: “AI use not disclosed.” If you answered “not sure”, it is marked Check. |
| Vacancy statement | Say whether the posting is for an existing vacancy (ESA s. 8.5(1)(a)). | No vacancy statement | Fix: “Say whether the posting is for an existing vacancy, e.g. ‘This posting is for an existing vacancy.’” |
| Canadian experience | No requirement related to Canadian experience in the posting or application form (ESA s. 8.3). | “Canadian work experience required.” | Fix: “Remove: ‘Canadian work experience’.” |
| Age (every employer, any size) | A posting must not directly or indirectly state a preference for an age (Human Rights Code ss. 23(1), 24(1)(b)). | “Join our young, energetic team.” | Fix: “Remove: ‘young, energetic team’.” |
| Accommodation notice (any size) | Employers notify employees and the public that accommodation is available for applicants with disabilities (O. Reg. 191/11 s. 22). | No mention of accommodation | Check: “No accessibility accommodation notice.” |
What it cannot see
- Pages linked from the posting and any application form, unless you paste them in. The government’s guide treats linked pages as part of the posting, and the rules also cover an associated application form (ESA ss. 8.3, 15(7.1)).
- Whether your tools use AI, unless you tell it.
- Wording it has no pattern for. A clear result means no problem was found, not that none exists. It is a check, not legal advice.
